Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma says the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, stole the idea of Eastern Security Network from South East governors.
Uzodimma, while speaking to journalists on Friday night in Owerri said that the governors had agreed that they will set up a joint security network for the safety of the region before Kanu came out with the idea of ESN.
He said: The five South Eastern governors had agreed to set up Eastern Security Network with the help of Ohanaeze.
“Lawmakers in each of the states had been tasked with the discussion of the issues. But before we knew it, IPOB stole the name and began using to create crisis”
He said that the Governors will still consider setting up a regional security outfit during their upcoming meeting in Owerri to address security issues in the region.
Uzodimma’s claims run contrary to the statement by the Chairman of the South East governors forum, Dave Umahi, who said earlier this week that the governors did not set up a regional security outfit because there was no need for it.
Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, who spoke on Channels TV Sunrise Daily on Wednesday said they agreed not to set up a regional security outfit because the security situations in the region did not call for it.
