Mr Okey Ezea, a Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Enugu North has accused governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of excavating a former governor of the state, Chimaroke Nnamani from retirement and bringing him back to political limelight.
Ezea and Ugwuanyi will slug it out for the Enugu North Senatorial seat in 2023.
Ezea, a business mogul said that apart from bringing Nnamani back to limelight, Ugwuanyi is also trying to install Nnamani’s stooge and former Commissioner of finance, Peter Mbah as governor of the state.
Nnamani was a two-term governor of the state between 1999 to 2007. He later became a Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District.
Speaking at a political gathering over the weekend, he said: “Chimaroke Nnamani slaughtered many people in Enugu while he was governor. He was sent to political exile by Ugwuanyi’s predecessor, Sullivan Chime who chased him back to the United States. Now Ugwuanyi brought him back to political limelight and is also trying to install Nnamani’s stooge, Peter Mbah who was Nnamani’s commissioner for finance as governor.
“Enugu does not want the return of the Ebeano family. Ebeano political family rendered many families hopeless. Under Nnamani’s administration, many families lost loved ones to State-sponsored killings.
“But the people Ugwuanyi killed with hunger are more than the people Nnamani killed through the barrel of the gun. There is nobody from Nsukka that can say he was empowered in the last seven years that Ugwuanyi had been governor.”
Recall that in May Peter Mba, a former Commissioner of finance in Enugu emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. Mba, before his emergence was the manager of Pinnacle oil gas, a downstream company allegedly belonging to Nnamani.
Sources said that the oil and gas company was floated four months after the end of Nnamani’s tenure as governor. Most of the assets acquired by Nnamani while he was governor were seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
