Nigerians have expressed support for the call by the Nigeria Medical Association to clinically test the covid-19 vaccines before administering on citizens.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, a public commentator Matthew Ossai and three media practitioners Victor James, Collins Gbarawin, Wariso Wariso and Tony John said the Nigeria Medical Association was right that the vaccines ought to pass through clinical test to confirm their efficacy.
According to them, the vaccines passing through test was a normal procedure to confirm their potency and side effect.
“It is very important because at a stage of global order, with what is happening at global level, because some of this vaccines are for trials and it may not go down well with so many persons. So bringing the vaccines down to Nigeria, the resultant like this clinical test will help.
“As an individual I will want to suggest that the vaccine if actually is covid, it should pass through clinical test and that they should confirm it so that there will be no mistake, right now we have a lot of fake even the World Health Organization has also made statement that there are a lot of fake and so Nigerian government should check very properly before even trying it at all”
“I think its the medic procedure, beside that the medicine is coming from outside, and we can not just accept it like that without subjecting it to clinical trial, I think it’s a normal procedure, the essence is just to confirm the potency of the medicine”
“I think that there is need for the vaccines to pass through series of test not even one test, series of test son that we can ascertain the authenticity and then the usefulness of that vaccine which will be injected into human body because we don’t know, tomorrow they distribute the vaccine and begin to administer it to people, and people will start dying”
“In a very simple language, the vaccine is suppose to go through series of laboratory test before you can confirm it to be used on human being, that’s my position thank you.
They responded at the opinion that the vaccine should be passed through several trials in line with requirement of the World Health Organization, which has already raise alarm on fake vaccines in circulation.
They called on the leadership of the country to be careful in approving the administration of the vaccines on citizens to avoid killing innocent Nigerians.
