Two widows have reportedly lost their lives after they were tortured for allegedly being witches in the Ebbaken community in Boje, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The victims identified as Martina Osom and Rose Akom, were killed on Saturday, Vanguard reports.

A source said both women, who were devout Catholics, were returning from early morning prayers when the youths accosted and accused them of initiating a member of the community into witchcraft.

According to him, the women were beaten severely and ordered to confess their involvement in witchcraft.

“They were both tied with strong ropes and beaten in the rain all through the day until they died,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said no arrest had been made after the incident as the culprits are walking free in the community.a
