Man kills wife, daughter with shovel in Anambra

A 28-year-old Chukwuemeka Obijofa has been arrested by the Ozubulu police station of Anambra State police command for killing his wife and daughter with a shovel.

Obijofa, an indigene of Ofufe Nza village in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State allegedly ran amok on Tuesday in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, Chisom Chukwuemeka, aged 26 years, and their child, Amanda Chukwuemeka, aged 4. He was said to have hit them with a shovel on their heads resulting to their death.

It was gathered that Obijofa also attacked and wounded a vigilante operative who tried to rescue his wife and child during the incident.

CSP Haruna Mohammed, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson said police detectives visited the scene and rushed the victims to the joint hospital in Ozubulu where the two were certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

Mohammed said that the wounded vigilante operative is responding to treatment, while the corpses of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP John B.Abang, has directed the DPO to transfer the case to State CID, Awka, for a discreet investigation to unravel the actual cause of the incident”.
