A 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Denis Jose from Akure, Ondo State has beaten his wife of eight years, Chidinma Jose from Ikeduru Imo State to death and attempted to commit suicide.
Brenda Ibeh, a sister of deceased 30-year-old said the incident occurred on Monday, at their home in Suleja, Niger State.
She said it was not the first time Adeniyi was attempting to kill her sister, adding that the matter was reported to the police but nothing was done.
Narrating the events that led to her death in a telephone interview with Network Against Domestic Violence Foundation, she said that they have been married since 2014.
“He is jobless while my sister is the one feeding him and taking care of their 9 year old child.My Sister works at the registers department of the General Hospital, Suleja Niger state”.
“Her best friend Promise who works in the same hospital, whom my sister loves so much to the point that she travelled from Suleja to Port Harcourt to attend her child’s naming ceremony has been feeding my sister’s husband with lies about her.
“Adeniyi first attempted to kill my sister in he first week of April when my sister returned from fixing our dads house in the village. My dad was with Road Safety and his pension money was used to fix his house”.
“We agreed that she should play that role because she was a graduate. He called her and disturbed her so much that she had to run back and when she did, that same night, he almost killed her with a sharp knives he had bought and drank SNIPER”.
“The case was reported to the police at Suleja and nothing was done about it.
“Adeniyi succeeded yesterday, he killed my sister, strangled her and again drank SNIPER , this time he drank very little because he is very awake and is apologizing that he didn’t mean to kill her, You can see the rope and the strangling marks on her neck” Brenda added.
Brenda accused Promise whose WhatsApp chat her sister stumbled on her husband’s Adeniyi’s phone, saying her best friend has been feeding him with stories about her cheating and flirting with men.
“They were all lies, I don’t know what she wanted to gain. This is a marriage that my Sister was providing almost everything for the family” .
