Locals cheer as Anambra taskforce kill leader of unknown gunmen, others

Anambra State Govt-backed Joint Security Taskforce on Friday killed five alleged unknown gunmen in communities in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

The Taskforce made up of personnel of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Security, Police and local vigilante lunched on the hoodlums terrorising the area known as Double Lion.

During the gunfight that ensured, five of the criminals were killed, including the leader of the deadliest Osumogho camp of the Unknown Gunmen.

The security team paraded their bodies in the streets to the cheering of the locals.

A military source told Standardobservers that the Taskforce launched the attack after credible intelligence.

According to the source, upon sighting the security team, the gunmen opened fire on them but were outgunned.

He said the leader of the Double Lion who had been on the watch list of security agents and four of his associates were killed while others escaped with several degrees of injuries.

When contacted, Ikenga Tochukwu who didn’t expressly confirm the development nor deny it, told Standardobservers correspondent that security agencies in the state have resolved to make the state uninhabitable for criminal elements.
