Labour Party’s Senatorial candidate assassinated in Enugu

Oyibo Chukwu, the Labour Party’s Senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial candidate has been assassinated in Amechi Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Chukwu was killed together with six other supporters on Wednesday night, three days to a crucial presidential and national assembly elections.

His opponents include a former governor of the state, Chimaroke Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party and Ada Ogbu of the All Progressives Congress.

Sources in Enugu who craved anonymity said his assassination was politically motivated as he was most likely to win the election giving the popularity of his party in the state.

Also, the All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate was also attacked in the area on Wednesday night while a minibus conveying the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP House of Representatives candidate for Enugu South, Offor Chukwuegbo was burnt by gunmen.

As at the time of filing this report, the police in Enugu has not confirmed the development.
