There is palpable tension in Owerri as sporadic gunshots erupted on Monday evening. This comes as the town observed partial sit-at-home.
The gunshots erupted at Okigwe Road close to the Civil Defence junction.
It was gathered that some police officers went to the Civil Defence base over one its personnel that was arrested and shot sporadically in the air.
The commotion led to the Civil Defence Officers returning fire leading to a stablemate.
However, an eyewitness told Standardobservers that the standoff it lasted for over 30 minutes.
The eyewitness, Nkechi Ukaeme said that soldiers also visited the base upon and were trying to resolve the issue as the time of filing this report.
