Youths in Imo State on Friday launched ferocious attacks on governor Hope Uzodimma after he wished them a happy International Youths Day.
They accused the governor of killing the youths and for increasing joblessness.
The governor had in a statement on his verified Facebook said “As we work towards a society that guarantees economic growth, efficient security, justice and equity, we hinge our conviction of success on the vibrancy, creativity and industry of Imo Youths.
“As a Government, this has spurred us into the implementation of various youth-oriented policies and programs to empower our youths with needed exposure, skills and experience for the betterment of our society.
“Today, as we mark the International Youth Day, we queue behind the global agenda of leveraging the full potential of all generations towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by seeking solidarity across generations.
“My administration rides on fostering successful and equitable intergenerational partnerships which are evident in the formation of my Executive Council and expanded cabinet. My continuous appeal to all Imo Youths to jettison crime and embrace peace, is critical to the progress we desire as a People. I believe in you all to join hands in the development of our dear State.
“Interestingly, during our last Exco Meeting, the Chief Economic Adviser and the Honourable Commissioner for Labour and Productivity have been mandated to produce a working plan for the creation of jobs in the digital economy for Imo Youths. I am optimistic that in no distance time, additional successes shall be recorded in this regard.
“I, therefore, celebrate with you our beloved Imo Youths today and always, even as we continue to provide an enabling environment for the growth of your potential”.
But the youths posted uncomplimentary comments, describing the governor as a vulture that eats its own.
