The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has blocked the online voter registration for Anambra state in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration exercise.

Volunteers working towards getting more residents of the state registered observed that the commission blocked slots for all the local government areas of the state with just 42,000 registered as against 230,000 for Osun State.

Uche Okoye, the leader of TETA volunteers, a group championing registration of eligible voters in South East said they couldn’t register more persons due to the blockade by the commission.

“Why can’t they allow us to register more people in Anambra state? Is this deliberate or accidental? I have tried reaching out to INEC through different channels to no avail.

“We must not allow this to happen
INEC should as a matter of urgency increase our slot immediately”

Text messages and calls to the Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, were not responded to when contacted for comments.

Meanwhile, Teta Volunteers said they’re looking for more volunteers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra to help in the registration of eligible voters in the the region.
