The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has banned the use of the Party’s name, logo or insignia for print, electronic or social media programs without the express authorization of the Party in the State.

This was one of the far-reaching decisions taken by the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the Party during its meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

SEC noted with dismay the increasing spate of media attacks on the Party and its Leaders by overzealous aides, allies and associates of some politicians in the Party.

Collins Opurozor, Publicity Secretary Imo State PDP in a statement on said explained that “What SEC found deeply troubling is that these anti-party activities are carried out through electronic media programs and social media platforms which pretend to belong to the Party.

“It is, therefore, the position of SEC that such media attacks are neither healthy for the unity and soaring electoral fortunes of the Party nor helpful to the politicians on whose behalf the attacks are being levied. And so they stand proscribed.

“More so, the unauthorized media programs greatly undermine the basic principle of political party organization, to wit: chain of command and hierarchy of control, and they further unnecessarily heat up the Party.

“Forthwith, all Admins to social media platforms which bear the name, logo or at any rate are dedicated to intra-PDP conversations in the State, are mandated to get accreditation from the office of the Publicity Secretary of the Party.

“Following from that, the Party condemns the unethical practice by some electronic media houses in the State which stage programs on the activities of the PDP in the State without seeking the representation of the Party in the programs.

“SEC notes this as a violation of the doctrine of fair hearing as enshrined in the NBC code of conduct.

“To this end, Imo PDP cautions the concerned media outfits to desist from such mischief, and further alerts them that the violation of the standards set by their regulatory agencies is sanctionable”.
