Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi on Sunday accused the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of encouraging violence in the state.
The governor speaking at a Church service to thank God for the successful hosting of President Muhammadu Buhari on a two-day visit at the new Government House Chapel, Ochoudo Centenary City Abakaliki, said the PDP should carry out their political activities without bloodletting.
He warned that his administration would not condone further harassment of Citizens with arms and ammunition.
He said: “There was an online reporting of shooting, the shooting was done by the PDP people, shooting at the Secretariat and for the past two weeks, they have been shooting there, is that how they want to contest election in Ebonyi State?
“When the Police Stations were attacked in Ezza South and North, the police guns were missing, when the shooting was happening and one of the thugs were arrested, with a bus of a Senator painted in PDP colour with his name boldly written on it, do you know what was discovered, among other guns and ammunition was the Police gun, I have told CP that I am interested in the matter and if there is one more shooting at the Secretariat, I will seal it off, people around there have packed out, is that the kind of Democracy we are looking for?
“How can you come to a State and you will be shooting as if there is no Government, and you are carrying Police people and then your thugs are shooting, it won’t happen again.
“People who can not manage their party thing want to be this and that, but let me tell you, when they stabbed me at the back, I knelt and I prayed for them, what you have sown is what you will reap.”
Governor Umahi appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for agreeing to take over the management of the newly built King David University of Medical Sciences Uburu, expressing hope that the Institution would meet the health needs of Nigerians at its peak.
“What did I have in mind while building it, I had in mind our Country and Children while building it, so what is your problem if that place is going to answer the medical needs of this Country, we are deeply very grateful to God Almighty and Mr. President, for taking over the Institution, that is the Nazareth of this Country.
“Whoever counted us among in the comity of States? Who counted us? who will ever think that we would become a reference point, it is only God that can do it, and we thank the Church so much, we are partners, with the Church and I am happy that the Reverend Father that was having an issue with the Police has been released, I had to swallow every insult, and I did a meeting and I am happy he was released on Friday a Legal people said two weeks, I said no, it has to be last week and I am happy it was done and I am sure Pastor you must be happy about it, we are very happy and I am very obedient to the Church.”
The Governor called on all aspirants under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Divine Mandate to depend on God for victory and make the necessary sacrifices for the sake of peace and unity of the State.
“When it is time for you to make sacrifices, remember that we are not the only ones who are Worthy to be voted for, sometimes, we have to step aside to vote for others, we have to remember this, there are some people in this Country we have voted for more than twenty times, but they will never step aside to vote for others even for one time, it is ownership mentality, it is not correct, the young must grow, I have considered the young people in Ebonyi State in everything I do, in appointment, they occupy over eighty percent because the future is in your hands, so when you see young people that are coming up, you have to support them, when will you act, this is the time to act.
“We are complete in him, Jesus the head of all principalities and powers, that is my secret society, that is my secret, so I belong to the one that is on top of them all, the secret society of our Lord, Jesus Christ, so if you belong to this one, victory is assured.
“Do not sow your seed where it will not germinate, God can do anything, so let us all fall to the platform of God, no man during the APC Congress is going to carry results to go and write in another place, no gun-running, nothing, it will not work, it will not work because people will resist it, it will not work so let us come forth to God, if I don’t want a peaceful election, I won’t be calling for prayers, if I want to write results, I won’t be calling for prayers, I want God to bring out the best.”
Governor Umahi charged South East Leaders to speak out in support of South East Presidency to ensure the Zone gets the slot in 2023.
“Let me tell the Leaders of South East, if anything happens to the Presidency of South East, the future of our children, they will ask us, in the last sixteen years, when you were there, what did you say and that is why I am speaking out, it is not about me, it is about equity, fairness, and justice, what will you tell our children in the next sixteen years happened to our right, let us be very careful, it is not about us, we will give account to South East people and our children tomorrow for every act we did while in office and the ones we did not, we need to speak out.”
He called on the aspirants to spearhead the sensitization for the ongoing voter registration to ensure more massive participation in the electoral process.
Governor Umahi assured that he would complete all ongoing projects before the end of his administration in 2023.
