Governorship candidate of Labour Party in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga, has said he would dismantle the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in politics of the state.

Edeoga stated this after winning the repeat governorship primary of the party for the 2023 general elections in Enugu.

He said he has the capacity, experience and knowledge to turn the party into a winning platform in the state.

The repeat governorship primary was held after the withdrawal of the placeholder, Casmir Agbo, from the race. Edeoga emerged winner after garnering 81 votes cast by 85 delegates in the primary monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Addressing members of the party at the venue, Edeoga, who had earlier emerged runner-up at the governorship primary of the PDP in the state, said he is in a position to lead the onslaught against his former party because he was a founding member.

“I don’t have any doubt that I can do that. We will rewrite the history of the state. We will carefully dismantle the PDP and if there is anybody who is in a position to do it, I am. This is because I was a founding member of the party in Enugu and I know the founding fathers did not set up a party to humiliate Igbo people.

“Enugu has not enjoyed the best of governance from PDP. The party has been destroyed and we will help them to completely dismantle it. The outcome of the presidential primary was a rejection of the South East, which toiled, through Dr. Alex Ekwueme, to form the party. It was an outright rejection of the Igbo and that is the basis for the destruction of the party. We will help them to completely destroy it,” he said.
