Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Governor has debunked statement credited to him over the discharge of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court had on Thursday discharged Kanu from terrorism charges levelled against him by the federal government.

A statement purportedly credited to Uzodimma had claimed that the decision of the Court was bad for the South East.

The purported statement credited to Uzodimma read in part: “Today the Appeal Court of Justice released the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu without considering the negative impacts his release will impose on Nigerians, because it’s obvious he will turn out to be a terror, threat and thorn on the Nigerians Leaders especially now that he has been released.

“Nigerians experienced a more comfortable moments when Kanu was in prison unlike now that he has been released. What this means is that Nigeria will return back to the days of Afghanistan and Iraq and Iran because Nnamdi Kanu deserves not to be release at all.

“Imo State today is in disarray all because of Nnamdi Kanu destructive orders. The entire Eastern region is in confusion today because of Kanu’s trained criminals called ESN Soldiers. Is this what we are going to face now? The Federal government should think twice and take up this matter to Supreme Court which i believe will give a better judgement on this matter than the lower Courts”

But the state government in a disclaimer published on its verified Facebook page said that: “It has come to our knowledge, the activities of an established syndicate with the sole aim of manufacturing fake news and maliciously crediting same to the Governor and Government of Imo State.

“The objective of this group is not far fetched as they struggle to discredit Governor Hope Uzodimma who is committed to the governance of Imo State and the wellbeing of Ndi Imo and Ndi Igbo in general.

“The false publication with the heading “The release of Nnamdi Kanu by Appeal Court is not a good one for Nigerians, FG should do the needful” DID NOT emanate from the Governor nor the Government of Imo State.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard such as it is a product of fake news merchants. His Excellency the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma never made any statement in respect of the court ruling of yesterday.

“Those behind the fake news are advised to desist from the practice as the 3R Government is focused on delivering transformational policies, programs and projects for the growth of the State and the south east at large”.
