A staff of Akuu Hotel, Abagana, has explained to an Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka how an undergraduate student of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Miss Chinenye Promise Nwoye, was found dead and dumped inside a toilet in one of the hotel rooms.
The member of staff of the hotel (name withheld) who is a prosecution witness in the murder case informed the court that room 57 of the hotel, which the defendant, Kingsley Ogbonnaya, booked, was where the deceased was found; with hands, legs and mouth tied with pieces of torn cloth.
Mr Ogbonnaya is facing trial for the murder of an undergraduate in 2020.
He is accused with one Mr Chinedu Igwilo, still at large, of conspiring to kill Miss Nwoye.
The hotel staff explained that the deceased’s mother came to the facility around 7 pm and announced that she had a call from the daughter, who told the mother that she was kidnapped and kept in one of the hotel rooms.
Upon searching the hotel rooms with spare keys, the witness said the deceased was found inside the toilet of hotel room 57. When the defendant realized the deed had been discovered, he took to his heels after escaping from her grip. Still, he was later arrested by police officers attached to Abagana Police Division.
After listening to the witness’s account, the court adjourned the matter to 16th June for cross-examination.
