The wife of a sound engineer and a father of two, David Imoh has explained how he was mobed and burnt to death by a group of Hausa commercial motorcyclists in Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Thursday 12th of May 2022 at Lekki admiralty way (phase 1)
David was said to have gotten into a misunderstanding with one of the commercial motorcyclists over a ₦100 balance.
It later resulted in a fight between them and more commercial motorcyclists gathered and joined their colleague to beat David until he became unconscious.
A video of the incident posted on Twitter showed how David was lying on the floor with a tire-burning on his body, and his attackers pouring fuel on the fire, causing it to increase.
David’s friends, Frank (saxophonist) and Philip (keyboardist) are also said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital as a result of the beaten they also received.
But the wife, Tolu said in a video on Facebook that her husband had no contact with the said Okada man, adding that he was killed because he came to separate the fight between his friends and the Okada man.
She said: “They are musicians that work at Beer Barn. The Okada man was supposed to collect N400, but the guys gave him N500. Bikeman said he didn’t have N100 change. The two guys didn’t have too.
“So they gave the Okada man N300 assuring him that they are regulars on the street and will balance him whenever they see him. The men turned to leave and the bike man grabbed one of the guy’s shirts, tearing it in the process.
“The guy whose shirt the bike man tore, turned and punched the bike man which resulted in the bike man fainting/being knocked out of consciousness.
“All this while, David was inside Beer Barn. It was when people around (including the bikeman’s tribesmen) started dragging these two guys to wake up the bike man, that was when David was called in.
“Prior to this, around last week, someone had slumped and died and people had suspected foul play. Saying the incident was linked to guys on a bike who could possibly be yahoo boys.
“So when this incident involving the bike man occured, people automatically assumed that yahoo boys are at play again.
“When David saw that there was an angry mob, and the situation had been blown out of proportion and accusations were flying, he ran and hid himself.
“A woman who didn’t know the origin of the whole issue found Uncle David hiding and directed the mob to where he was, accusing him of being a ritualist.
“They used stone to break his head. They beat him. Stripped him naked and eventually set him on fire.
“David was a reputable human being. He wasn’t dragging N100 with a bike man. He was called in to separate the fight. The two guys involved were beaten almost to death and are now in critical condition”.
