Gunmen on Tuesday shot a police inspector to death in Kom Kom, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The officer identified simply as Inspector Chris and attached to the Afam police station was shot dead on his way from work around 9 pm.
According to locals, the father of 5 was shot on the head and he died instantly.
The shooting came barely 48 hours after an operative of a local vigilante group, OSPAC was also shot dead in the area.
Following the shooting, police embarked on mass arrest of residents, arresting over 50 youths from adjoining communities.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the public relations officer the state command while confirming the killing of the officer, said the command has launched a manhunt for the killers of Inspector Chris.
