Assailants suspected to be cultists have killed a father of two at the Attah Nkpor axis of Anambra State.
The victim, identified as Nonso, was killed on Sunday morning by the suspected cultists alleged to be on a reprisal.
It was gathered that his hand was cut off and taken away by the killers.
A childhood friend of the deceased who spoke to Standardobservers on the conditions of anonymity said he was killed in the presence of his mother, wife and two children, who watched helplessly as the attackers severed his hand.
Cult-related killings in Anambra have spiked in the last two weeks, with scores killed at Ifite Awka, which houses the Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Students of the institution on Monday protested the many killings and robberies around the university campus, urging the government and security agencies to end the orgy of violence.
Ikenga Tochukwu, the public relations officer of the Anambra State Police Command, told our correspondent that the command is working round the clock to end the killings.
However, residents of the affected communities say security agencies have been overwhelmed, adding that despite their assurances, a day hardly passes without people being killed.
