Gunmen dismember five soldiers, 10 others declared missing in Akwa Ibom community

Nigerian Army says the bodies of five soldiers were dismembered by suspected cultists in Essien Udim LGA of Akwa Ibom state during an attack on military and police convoy on a joint operation Delta Safe last week.

Soldiers were sent to the area following the constant attacks on security agents.

A military source said over ten soldiers had gone missing, adding that troops later discovered the bodies of five dismembered soldiers.

He said that four police officers are still missing following the attack by hoodlums in the area.

The military had returned to the area on Tuesday using drones and low flowing fighter jets to comb the area.

The military source told TheCable that: “The military had to storm the area, and this time, with airstrikes when about 10 of our soldiers got kidnapped,” one of the sources said.

“We flushed the criminals out, and while ground troops were combing the area, we found bodies of our soldiers, dismembered. It was shocking. We put their bodies together.”
