Gunmen abduct 7 lodgers from hotel in Rivers, kill security guard

Unknown gunmen at the weekend invaded a hotel in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State and abducted seven lodgers.

It was gathered that the gunmen also killed a security operative guarding the hotel, Abiama Rises Hotel, along Sambo road.

The attacked hotel is owned by Solomon Nwachukwu Ariodu, a chairmanship aspirant in the upcoming council elections in the Local Government Area scheduled for April.

Sources said the chairmanship aspirant was the target of the attack but was said to have escaped.

It was gathered that Ariodu was earlier arrested by the police over leadership crises rocking the Fitters Senior Staff Union of Nigeria.

Ariodu, an ally of the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Felix Obuah was said to have held sway as the chairman of the association for more than 12 years.

When contacted, Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the Rivers State Police Command said he was not aware of the incident.
