Uche Okafor Episani, the speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly has donated a 12-seater passenger speed boat to flood victims crossing the cut-off section of the Aguleri-Anaku-Omor-Adani road.

While addressing Ayamelum victims of the flood, boat operators and other road users, he stated his disappointment at the news that commercial boat operators are taking advantage of the flood disaster that has destroyed; homes, livestock and farmlands of Ndi Ayameleum to charge the people exorbitantly for a journey of less than 2 kilometers.

He charged the operators to revert back to a price which is acceptable and that nobody is allowed to collect any form of toll/levy from the operators as the Anambra Govt led by Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo is against any form of illegal levy anywhere in the state.

He stated also that the boat he donated will carry passengers free and added that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has placed high value on the life of Ndi Anambra.

Okafor also shared to the boat operators more than 200 life jackets made available by Anambra State govt through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

He appealed to the people to guarantee that they must use life jackets for all passengers and operators and ensure every boat has manual paddle to save life in any case of emergency.

Mr Speaker promised the people that he will provide more boats to make sure their suffering as a result of this flood disaster is reduced to the barest minimum.
