Enugu State government is set to dedicate over 100,000 hectares of land to boost cassava production with the aim of expanding export opportunities. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s interest in collaborating with the state government to enhance the agricultural sector.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah’s office, a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, led by Permanent Secretary Nebeolisa Anako, discussed the potential collaboration.
Governor Mbah emphasized that his administration has identified agriculture as a pivotal sector for driving development and economic growth in the state.
The planned cassava production in Enugu State is not limited to domestic consumption but aims to create a robust value chain that includes revenue-generating products like cassava flour, cassava cake, cassava chips, and more.
Governor Mbah highlighted the state’s fertile land, which yields five times more than other states, making it an ideal location for agricultural ventures.
Expressing his satisfaction with the warm reception in Enugu State, Permanent Secretary Nebolisa conveyed the ministry’s eagerness to work collaboratively across sectors to propel the nation’s economic development forward.
The implementation of this ambitious cassava production project in Enugu State has the potential to bolster the state’s agricultural sector, contribute to the nation’s export market, and create employment opportunities for the local population.
