Ugwuanyi imposes curfew on crises-ridden Enugu community

The Enugu State Wing Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has embarked on an indefinite strike following the failure of the Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration to pay the harmonised minimum wage.

Comrade, Macs F.O Nnaji, leader of the union said it arrived at the decision after a well-attended meeting on Thursday. 21st July, 2022 and comprehensively reviewed all activities
surrounding the ill-fated minimum wage for primary school teachers in Enugu State.

“The SWEC-in-Session lamented bitterly that despite the fatherly promises, appeals, entreaties and interventions by
His Excellency, the Governor and other well-meaning sons and daughters of the state that the one month old strike action that was then on-going be suspended for Government to, within one month, commence payment of the minimum wage, nothing has been done to this day.

“That in the interest of industrial harmony, respect and obedience thereof, the strike action was accordingly
suspended on Thursday, 7th June, 2022; unfortunately and most dismayed to NUT, the whole thing has turned out
theatrical and a huge hoax, as the one month timeline requested by Government had since elapsed, with another almost coming to an end, yet nothing positive
has been done or seen to be done by Government.

“It is on the strength of the above sad commentary that the SWEC directed the leadership of NUT in the State to
activate the suspended strike action without further delay.

“Accordingly, all teachers in Public Primary Schools in Enugu State are by this Bulletin directed to unfailingly
commence an indefinite strike action with effect from Wednesday, 27th July, 2022.

“The strike action must be total, as no public primary school teacher in the state is to be seen in any school while the strike action lasts.

“The strike action can only be suspended on the written directive of the leadership of NUT in the State or the National Head Office.

“Since we teach them, they should not Cheat us!
