Outgoing US President, Donald Trump was on Thursday impeached for a second time after his supporters invaded the US Capitol a week ago.
One Capitol police officer died from injuries he suffered during the riot while a woman was also shot dead by the police.
The House voted by 232 to 197 to impeach Trump with ten Republicans breaking ranks with the president to vote in favour of his impeachment.
Trump became the first US president to be impeached twice with a single charge “incitement of insurrection”.
According to the four-paged impeachment bill, Trump is accused of “Gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government. He will remain a threat to national security, democracy and the constitution if allowed to remain in office.”
Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker said the impeachment was needed despite the limited number of days left in Trump’s term.
“The president’s threat to America is urgent, and so too will be our action,” she said.
