‘Disband Ebubeagu’, Ebonyi opposition parties beg Buhari


Major political parties in Ebonyi State, on Sunday, called on the Federal Government to dismantle the structure of the South East security outfit, Ebubeagu.

The parties said that the security outfit has become a murderous gang instead of securing the lives and property of the people of the region, especially Ebonyi state.

The Coalition comprised of the candidates of the Labour Party, (LP), Edward Nkwegu; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ifeanyi Odii; Action Alliance, Chukwuma Nwandugo; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Benard Odoh; and Sunday Opoke of the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

The Coalition said the security implication of the high handedness of Ebubeagu in Ebonyi state required an urgent intervention by the President to restore sanity in the state as against the present era of terror designed to scare candidates of the opposition parties in the state from contesting for the various elective positions.

It said: “That we are calling on the Federal Government security agencies: NSA, DSS, Police, Civil Defense, Army and others, to urgently look into the abuses in Ebonyi state by Ebubeagu and state sponsored thugs, address them and restore peaceful co-existence.

“That the Ebubeagu militia be dismantled as a matter of urgent national security imperative

“That all Ebubeagu militia members that were involved in the attacks on Linus Okorie and Prof. Benard Odoh and other Ebonyians be arrested and prosecuted.
