Dev Union, NDLEA, NOA sensitize Anambra community on dangers of mkpurummiri

As part of measures put in place to check the ravaging effect of Methamphetamine the Unubi Development Union in conjunction with the National Orientation Agency and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has organized a one-day sensitization seminar for the people of the area.

The sensitization which has its theme as “The Effect of Consumption of Illicit Drugs” took place at the Unubi Town Hall in Nnewi South Local Government Area.

Chidinma Ikeanyionwu was there and reports that in his keynote address, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency Mr Charles Nwoji frowned at the caning therapy used by some communities as a means of reducing the scourge but listed some measures such as cooperation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, National Orientation Agency and other sister agencies, deliberate efforts by town unions at social rejuvenation through reasonable sanctions as way forward towards fighting the scourge of drug addiction and violent crimes.

Mr Nwoji a lawyer, further urged the community to always identify manufacturers of these substances and other supporters for a safer society.

In his paper presentation, the Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Mrs Florence Ezeonye represented by a staff of the agency Mr Chris Adabo explained that the objective of the seminar was to help the people of Unubi particularly young people to avoid initiation on the use of psychoactive substances.

In their various remarks the President-General of Unubi Development Union Mr Cosmos Abanobi and the community Woman Leader Mrs Ann Nwosu urged parents to see parenting as a serious business even as they reiterated the community’s resolve to discourage drug abuse.

Representatives of the Nigeria Police, Health practitioners and students were present during the event.
