Ike Ekweremadu, the former deputy president of the Senate has called for the cancellation of the delegation of the election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu.
Ekweremadu in a statement through his campaign director, Charles Asogwa alleged that some interest groups are planning to use the concocted list of three-man delegates that is being challenged in court in the election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Delegates in Enugu on Tuesday.
“Recall that we all know that those on that list never participated in the election of three-man delegates in Enugu State and where they participated, they lost.
“The Ikeoha Campaign Organisation, therefore, advises the PDP to refrain from impunity and allow the courts to adjudicate on the matter. Any such disrespect to the court process on the matter will have consequences on our primary elections.
“In the circumstance, therefore, we urge the PDP to suspend the exercise of electing National Delegates in Enugu State today and await the court verdict regarding the three-man delegates.
“We equally hereby advise all lovers of democracy and all those who have respect for our judiciary to shun today’s exercise”.
Meanwhile, Akor Chris Akor, a legal practitioner and others (For themselves and on behalf of all the delegates elected on 30th April 2022 at the Ward Congress held for Enugu State and whose names have been duly submitted and received by the National Executive Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP) have approached the Federal High Court Abuja to be joined as defendants in the suit filed by the camp of Ikekweremadu.
The application for joinder was filed by Barr. Akor Chris Akor and others were granted today by the Federal High Court Abuja.
The case has been adjourned to Tuesday 17th May 2022 for the hearing of the substantive suit
Recall that on May 4th 2022 through an originating summons marked FHC/ABJ/CS/602/2022, the camp of Ikekweremadu represented by Raphael Onovo and others (for themselves and on behalf of all delegates elected on the 30th April 2022 Ward Congress) Vs PDP and others claimed that they were the duly elected and only legitimate ward Adhoc delegates elected in Enugu state for the election of the Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial, National Assembly and House of Assembly Candidates of the party in Enugu.
This comes after a High Court of Enugu State had in a suit filed by Prince Paul Nnaji and others Vs PDP and others with suit No E/379/2022, made an interim order restraining the defendants from recognising or giving effect to any other three-Man Adhoc delegates other than the list that emerged from the congress of April 30th 2022.
