Customers of the Aba Power Ltd (APL), is owing the company a staggering N4.5 billion in unpaid bills in its first six months of operation.
Sources in the company said Prof. Barth Nnaji, its Chairman has expressed concerns about future sustenance of the company’s operations given poor response of customers in bill settlement.
A source within the company said less than six months after commencing electricity distribution in the commercial city of Aba, in Abia State, poor response to debt payment has become a serious and insidious issue for the company.
The explained that residents and commercial business operators are owing the firm about N4.2 billion for electricity supplied.
He added that the attitude of inability to pay bills is now a major challenge to the APL which is the distribution arm of Geometric Power Ltd.
Another source within the company noted Nnaji expressed worries that barely six months after it took over electricity distribution in Aba, his company is owed N4.2 billion by consumers.
The company took over the Aba ring fence from Enugu Electric Distribution Company.
