The Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, a charity organization founded by wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano, has provided prosthetic fittings for one hundred and fifty-six physically challenged persons.

The beneficiaries had indicated interest in the programme which is run free of charge, and each got their measurements two months ago by Ishk Tolaram, CAFE’s technical partners, ABS reports.

The free prosthetic care is one of CAFE’s programmes that target vulnerable members of the society who, ordinarily could not afford the costs of artificial replacements for their lost limbs or arms.

Speaking shortly after getting fitted with prosthetic legs, Mrs Beatrice Okafor, Chinelo Nzewi and Mr Edward Uche said that they felt relieved that could use their legs again after years of dependence on crutches, and thanked Dr (Mrs) Obiano for supporting them.

Other beneficiaries, Mr Sunday Ezelue and Mrs Catherine Onyeka, said that though they felt a bit odd with the new fitting initially, they had already started getting used to its comfort within minutes, asking God to bless the governor’s wife for her kind gesture.

Note, that Dr (Mrs) Obiano’s has, also through CAFE, sponsored free cleft palate and lip surgeries for many children with such deformities, built twenty-eight houses for widows and less privileged women across the state, trained and empowered over six thousand women and youths in different skilled vocations, among others.

A total of over two thousand four hundred people have benefitted from the free prosthetics scheme since the program began in 2015.
