Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has declared, with immediate effect, a 24 hours curfew in pursuance of peace and order in the Sokoto metropolis and the entire state.

This follows the riot that has erupted in the state following the arrest and detaining of the killers of Deborah Yakubu.

Yakubu was murdered by an irate mob over allegations that she blasphemed on Prophet Mohammed.

Following national outcry and condemnation, her killers were arrested by the police and detained but rioters are demanding their release.

Reports said businesses have been attacked while tension in the state has risen, raising serious security concerns.

A video circulated on social media showed traders in Sahara market repelling attacks by Muslim mobs who destroyed cars and properties at the market.
