Breaking: Hoodlums kill five police officers in Enugu, burn down station

Unknown gunmen have attacked a Nigerian Police Force station at Iwollo Oghe, Ezeagu local government area of Enugu state killing at least five officers.

A Twitter user, ‘Udeh Victor’ in a post, confirmed that one of the officers that were killed is his kinsman.

It was gathered that the police station was razed, including vehicles parked on the premises.

Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, confirmed the incidents.

According to him, the attackers who came to the station in their numbers opened fire on police officers on duty but were resisted. In the ensuing gun duel, several of the assailants escaped with bullet injuries.

“Unfortunately, four of the operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries, were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while parts of the station were set ablaze by the assailants.”

However, Mohammed Ndatsu, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, while on an on-the-spot assessment with members of his management team and Operational/Tactical Commanders to Iwollo Police Division appealed to law-abiding citizens of the state to promptly volunteer useful information that will assist the Command in the ongoing investigation.

He also called on them, especially operators of medical facilities in the state, to promptly report to the police any person(s) found with gunshot injuries.

The Commissioner, while also consoling family members and close friends of the slain police officers, has ordered the intensification of an already launched discreet investigation to fish out the assailants and their cohorts.
