Atiku not eligible to contest for president - Malami

Ahead of the 2023 general election, public affairs analyst Azubuike Ihemeje has said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar should not be trusted with the highest political office in the country.

The lawyer said Nigeria should pray fervently for the former vice-president not to happen to the country, saying that he endorsed the butchering of Nigerians by religious fanatics.

Speaking at an interactive session for good governance in Port Harcourt, Ihemeje some actions should never be forgotten easily.

He recalled that on the 12 May 2022, some unimaginable tragedy happened in Nigeria which evoked some sort of national gloom and public outrage.

“A Christian student, Deborah Samuel was gruesomely murdered by some barbaric, extremist terrorists. She was killed in broad daylight in Sokoto state.

” What exactly did Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate do about that? He posted some a mere condolence on social media but he quickly deleted it, ostensibly due to his religious affiliations.

” Atiku did not just delete the condolence post. He added extra by posting apologies to the fanatic supporters of the murderers. He even wrote the apology in Hausa language, obviously the native language of those murderers” .

According to Ihemeje, the issue of the deleted tweet and the subsequent apology were unstable behaviours Nigerians must not forget.

He said the attitude of the former vice-president wasn’t necessarily out of political expediency as he preferred demons so much that he wholeheartedly retracted his condemnation of their evil deeds.

“He did not just retract his condemnation but also offered a heartfelt apology to those barbaric monsters. By every necessary ramifications, Atiku endorsed the butchering of innocent Deborah.

“He clearly told these murderous herds that he wasn’t behind the earlier condemnation of their atrocities. In other words, Atiku had in unequivocal terms given his full acquiescence, concurrence, approbations, supports and approvals to those demonic acts. Nigerians escaped such an enabler as president in 2019 and must do so in 2023,” he said.
