Operatives of the Nigerian Army on Sunday arrested the leader of the Bakassi Peninsula-based Biafra Nation League, Princewill Chimezie Richard.

The separatist leader was arrested in Isiala Mbano community on his way to Church for the ordination of an Anglican priest.

The BnL has in been operating in Bakassi Peninsula area and yesterday claimed responsibility for a bomb attack that reportedly killed some members of Cameroonian forces.

He recently formed an alliance with Finland-based self-styled Nnamdi Kanu’s disciple, Simon Ekpa.

Confirming the development, BnL on its verified Facebook page said its leader has been released after he was moved to the Church premises.

“It was a heated argument between the Police and Army. The Police officer prevented the army from moving him to their barracks by claiming that the BnL leader does not have driving license and so the matter should be left with the Police to deal with and not the army, while the army capitalized on the fact he is a Pro Biafran leader and a militant, they saw a message by someone who wrote to the BnL leader why he allied with Simon Ekpa, as soon they saw the message they said he has link with ESN,” the post said.

“They removed his staff/sword and a security torchlight from his car, while the Police hide the driving license in order to justify his claim that the BnL leader have no license that military should allow the Police handle the matter, the Anglican church representative came there and started pleading that Princewill was heading to the Cathedral Church at Nkwerre for the ordination of his friend as a Priest, after much pressure, Police insisted on the license, army insisted on taking him to custody over Biafra, until they later bowed to pressure and asked the Police to take them to the Church to confirm if he was going to Church, as at 3:30pm the ordination service was still on, and the Police turned back”.
