Argument between secondary school students leads to cult clash, killing of one in Rivers

An argument between senior secondary school students on Monday in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State degenerated into a cult clash, leading to the death of one person.

The incident occurred in Ban Ogoi where one ThankGod Loolo, a SS1 student was killed.

Lenu Barika, the youth leader of the community said the clash was a fallout of a heated argument over which local government area between Tai and Gokana loved education more. The two LGAs are neighbours.

According to the youth leader: “The clash broke out between residents of Gbaken, Eemu and Nwenwikowa who are indigenes of Gokana but resides in Ban-Ogoi(in Tai Rivers).

“The Gokanas started the fight over a small communal misunderstanding which the Ban-Ogoi community never envisaged would turn into bloodshed.

“The youths had some quarrel over supremacy of the local governments, and which one has more educated people.

”It later resulted in a cult clash between both parties. The Gokanas laid siege on their host community, engaging the harmless youths in a ceaseless sophisticated gun battle, killing and capturing harmless youths of Ban-Ogoi.”

A community source said more than 20 other persons sustained several degrees of injuries during the face-off.
