The statement read in part: “We represent Apostle Johnson Suleman, General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, and Omega Fire Ministries International, whose International Headquarters are in Auchi, Edo State, in connection with the above referenced subject and our legal instructions.
“It has come to our attention that a few malicious skit makers, bloggers, vloggers and other persons intent on destroying people’s reputations have turned our clients into targets of concerted attacks, to the point of publishing outright falsehoods and fabricated lies. While we are not opposed to the public scrutiny of our clients, we wish to remind all and sundry that there are clear boundaries between creativity in the exercise of the freedom of expression and defamation.
“Also, there are a few others, notably on Facebook, who pass off the names of our clients to extort the public through dubious pyramid schemes and financial scams. Our clients, a servant of God and an institution of Christian worship, are dedicated to expanding the body of Christ; and have no connection whatsoever to any scheme or scam of whatever guise their perpetrators make out. We shall, on behalf of our clients, continue to challenge malicious and negligent defamers and perpetrators of dubious scams, whether real or anonymous, intent on destroying our clients’ reputations, track down and identify them whenever their reprehensible acts come to our knowledge, and subject them to the scrutiny of the law, while raising the shield of truth.
“Further to the above, therefore, any act of defamation, whether orally or written, via print and broadcast media, electronic, audiovisual or social media will be met with stiff and appropriate legal actions, which may include but not limited to cease and desist letters, notices to take down, retraction notices and actions for award of special and general damages, including Attorneys’ fees and costs incurred in whatever steps we take to stop any false and defamatory publications against our clients and to defend their reputations and integrity”.
