Ex-banker tackles Obiano over borrowing

Valentine Ozigbo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) in the November 2021 Anambra State governorship election has said the emergence of Senator Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee (NWC) is “a new era for the party.”

In a statement he issued in Awka, Ozigbo said the new leadership has the daunting task of providing direction that would enable the PDP to take over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

Ozigbo, who is former President and Group Chief Executive of Transcorp Plc, lamented that the country had witnessed seven years of incompetent leadership and failure to deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians in all sectors.

“These are not the best of times for our country. The past seven years of incompetent leadership at the centre has pushed our country to a dangerous precipice.

“The Federal Government under APC has devastated Nigeria, economically, politically and socially. Never have Nigerians been so divided and living without hope,” he said.

Stressing that Ayu’s emergence and successful inauguration of the NWC marked a new era for the PDP, he said: “You have now been tasked with the crucial role of ushering our party into what will be a hotly contested 2023 general elections, the outcome of which will either preserve Nigeria or finally shatter whatever is left of our national cohesion.”

He urged the new PDP team to show Nigerians its leadership qualities, which he said, informed Ayu’s choice to lead the party at this time, adding: “There has never been a time when our party invested as much hope in a new NWC as it does today.”
