The Riverine Communities in Anambra have flooded Onitsha with yams and other agricultural produce.
The farmers flooded the markets with their farm produce through the River Niger through canoes and boats.
At the River Bank of Marine axis of Oseokwodu Market Onitsha, where the farm produce were unloaded, the farm produce included pepper, groundnut, potatoes, yam, cassava, pumpkin among others.
Some of the traders said the food items came into the market from Ogbaru, Anambra East and West Local Government Areas.
Speaking, a cassava seller from Anam, Mrs. Caroline Nnoruka, who frowned on high cost of the farm produce, blamed it on poor harvest due to climate change.
Mrs. Nnoruka lamented that a bag of processed cassava, which they formally sold for three thousand naira is now sold for between five thousand five hundred and six thousand naira.
For a potato dealer, Miss Chinasa Chukwudi price depends on the sizes and council area as a bag of potato from Anam costs three thousand two hundred to four thousand naira while same from Ogbaru costs two thousand eight hundred naira.
She warned buyers to be careful while buying the produce as some of them are at the verge of decay due to long storage.
Some boat operators, Mr. Augustine Ojadi and Mr. John Nwadozie, who convey these farm produce to various river banks, listed water hyacinth as one of their major challenges, especially during the raining season.
