A chairmanship candidate for the upcoming Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Anambra has accused another chairmanship candidate of extorting party faithful and horse-trading.

He said the candidate held a meeting in his hotel in Awka where he asked the attendees to contribute N500,000 each to settle some leaders in Abuja headquarters to smoothen the Congress of the party in the state.

Amaechi Onowu, Candidate for Chairman Anambra PDP who disclosed this in a statement on Monday explained that the said candidate is a mere aspirant seeking to become chairman of the party in the state and therefore has no locus standi to attempt to extort from any of the 13 LGA chairmen of any amount.

“If any aspirant or candidate wants to run for an election, he or she should do so with his or her own personal funds and not fleecing party faithful,” he said.

“Anambra PDP has gone beyond the regular horse-trading and tax collecting patterns of the past and it is time to set the records straight and position the party for what it has always been known for – the power to the people and not power to a few who are only interested in lining their pockets”.
