Anambra House Of Assembly to increase schools’ running costs

Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Basic Education says it will increase the running cost of Secondary Schools across the state in 2022 Appropriation Bill to sustain the impressive performance of Anambra State in education.

The Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu gave the assurance while scrutinizing the 2022 budget proposal of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board alongside other members of the committee in Awka.

The lawmaker expressed joy that Anambra State under the Obiano administration has done exceptional well in basic education, as the state now takes first position in JAMB and WASSCE examinations and other academic competitions.

He assured the Ministries of Basic Education and ASUBEB that his committee will approve their 2022 budget proposals to enable them do more next year.

While defending the 2022 budget estimate of ASUBEB, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Patrick Ugboaja explained that their budget size for 2022 is geared towards the repositioning of basic education through construction and renovation of classroom blocks and procurement of instructional materials in order to create a good learning environment in the state.

The ASUBEB Boss also pleaded with the committee to consider the request of the Board to employ four thousand five hundred teachers and one thousand two hundred and ninety eight non tutorial staff to arrest the gap created by lack of teachers in primary schools.

On her part,the Accountant, Ministry of Basic Education, Mrs Ogonna Osita Okoli gave an overview of the ministry’s 2021 budget .

She further told the committee that the ministry has achieved forty nine percent of its revenue target for this year,assuring that before the end of the fiscal year the ministry will hit ninety eight percent of their revenue target.

The Ministries of Environment and Lands led by their key officials also defended their 2022 budget proposals before the House committees on Environment and Lands.
