One of the front line aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Anambra State gubernatorial election, Dr Godwin Maduka has defected to the Accord Party (AP).
Maduka also described the PDP as a faulty vehicle.
Maduka while stating his reason for leaving PDP said that there is no loyalty in the party, which according to him played out during the governorship primary election.
The politician who spoke on Arise Television on Wednesday said, “Three days to the election they said that they were going to have superdelegates and the list changed three times. I discovered that PDP is a faulty vehicle. There were so many factions and I don’t want a vehicle that is broken to take me to my destination. I decided to find a new vehicle to go where I need to go.”
Reacting to his chances in the Accord party, he said that Anambra people are not going to be voting for parties anymore, but for individuals, irrespective of party affiliations.
“I joined politics for what I can offer my people. I thought that PDP seemed to be the most viable option but towards the end, it was in disarray. I joined the Accord party for two reasons; the party’s structure is good, even though it may not be well known. I have a name that is recognized in Anambra State; among all the aspirants, none of them has my antecedents.
“I stand tall in terms of what I can do. I have an added advantage because the Accord Party is number one on the ballot paper. I will just let Anambra people identify my face with Accord and know that the major aspirant in PDP has switched to Accord,” Maduka said.
While appealing to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the Anambra State election is credible, Maduka said, “If we want to have our democracy right in this country, we must learn from the people that taught us democracy, which is the West. INEC must use the November 6, election to show that it is indeed independent.”
