Following the expiration of the three months notice served by Anambra State Government to developers who built structures on water ways, the Anambra State Joint Task Force has continued the demolition of illegal structures from Bida road by Modebe Avenue, Fegge.
The exercise, which was ongoing affected buildings such as Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministry, shops and perimeter of fences.
Gov. Charles Soludo had on assumption of office advised the landlords to personally demolish such buildings in their own interest, warning that failure to do so, they would pay for the cost of the demolition.
The governor through his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim reiterated the resolve of the state government to ensure a better environment through its urban renewal programme.
Speaking during the exercise, the Head of Development Control, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mrs. Anulika Ikedigwe explained that the developers were served notices to remove those structures in March, 2022 but they remained adamant.
Mrs. Ikedigwe called on the general public to always enquire properly about lands before buying, desisting from buying lands that were on drainages.
She advised the general public to always visit the state Ministry of Lands and the Anambra State Physical Planning Board for approval before building on any land.
A trader, Mr. Jude Onuora appreciated Prof. Soludo for his courage and political will in taking the decision and carrying it without fear or favour, calling on the state government to extend same gesture to other areas in the state especially Awka.
