In line with the quest of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to make Onitsha and metropolis a liveable city, the Anambra State government has began demolishing marked buildings blocking waterways.

Soludo had said in the first week of his inauguration that his administration will remove all illegal structures and demolish buildings on flood channels in the state.

He said all structures whether they are churches, industries or residential buildings built along flood channels like Sakamori, Nwangene stream, Otumoye and other areas would be pulled down soon.

Some of the structures at Zik’s avenue, Fegge , Ochanja market, Biafran market and Main market Onitsha have been penciled for demolition.

Also, some churches including the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministry Onitsha (a.k.a land of freedom and miracle centre) along Creek Road, Fegge, Onitsha were also marked for demolition for compromising the city plan and blocking the drainage system.

The church is owned by Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje in Fegge.

The Government had marked the popular church with a red sign that reads “Remove”.

The Church was demolished on Thursday to public uproar.

Odumeje was seen trying to stop the exercise but was stopped by a combined team of security agents.

It was not immediately clear if compensations would be paid for the demolished buildings.
