Nnobi community in the Idemili South council area has floated a security outfit geared towards checkmating the increasing wave of crime in the town.
The security outfit, among other things, will maintain a strong relationship with security agencies in neighbouring communities to ensure complete law and order and report their day-to-day activities to the Nigeria Police Force and the community’s town union.
The traditional ruler of Nnobi, Igwe Nick Obi, who unveiled the outfit, said there was a need to keep the community’s security intact as it soon grew into a commercial hub.
The monarch who spoke through the Prime Minister of the town, Chief Onyechi Ifejuee, prayed for protection, long life and achievements of the set objectives for the betterment of the Nnobi people and the entire Anambra state and Nigeria at large.
The President General of Nnobi, Barr. Dominic Okpala recalled the ugly experiences of insecurity in the town and said the event marks a new and refreshing beginning in the security management of the city.
Mr Okpala warned those who waste and jeopardize their lives in violent criminality to back off of the community or face their full wrath.
He appreciated the community stakeholders who worked day and night to ensure the realization of the milestone and assured the state government of their unflinching support for the well-being of the citizenry.
The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth, Dr Nelson Omenugha and his Special Assistant on Security, Mr John-Chris Chigbo, said that security, law and order are top on the priority list of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and described the initiative by the community as a step in the right direction.
They assured of the support of the state government to achieve the vision of setting up the outfit.
Responding, the Chairman Nnobi Security Management Team, Chief Chinedu Nnobi, who spoke through his Secretary, Sir Obiora Okpala, promised to perform their duties by the guidelines stipulated by the Anambra state Vigilante Group and synergize with the police and the community to achieve their set objectives and goals.
Representatives of neighbouring communities shared their thoughts on the event. They expressed willingness to partner with Nnobi in combating crime and criminality, as the safety of all communities and life and property should be everyone’s business.
