Anambra state government has commenced intervention work on the failed portions of the Amansea axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Old road.
At present, work is ongoing on three hundred and fifty meters of the road though at different locations.
The intervention work is being done by Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, under the Anambra state ministry of Works.
ABS reports that desilting of drainages on both sides of the road has been completed and removal of non-suitable materials from the soil has been completed as well.
The officer in charge, Anambra Road Maitainance Agency, Engineer Azuka Egwuatu said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo directed that the road be made motorable within the shortest possible time to alleviate the suffering of the road users.
Engineer Egwuatu who said they would complete the work within four days since they have placed slumps and is presently on stone base after which they will prime and asphalt, listed some roads they had intervened on to include, Amansea road Ekwulobia round about, St Joseph cathedral Ekwulobia axis, Limca road by peoples club, Awka road, Agulu Lake axis to mention a few and currently moving in to start work on Nkpor-Umuoji road, all courtesy of Governor Soludo.
In their separate speeches, some road users appreciated Anambra state government under Professor Soludo for alleviating their plight as they lamented that they were forced to sleep on the road four to six days due to deplorable state of the road before now.
