Alex Ekwueme University makes Igbo compulsory for all students

The management of Alex Ekwueme University, Ndufu, Ebonyi State has directed the implementation of the institution’s Senate approval of Igbo Language as a compulsory General Studies course.

The Directorate of General Studies in an Internal Memo signed by Mbam Isaac on behalf of the Director of General Studies said that the course title would be Igbo language, literature and culture.

The memo with Ref: FUNAV/GST/010/Vol.I dated August 24, 2021 and addressed to Deans of faculties and Head of Departments read: “Sequel to the decision of the University Senate at its 68 Regular Meeting held on 16 June, 2021 that Igbo would henceforth be a GST course among the existing GST courses as follows:

a. That GST 107 will be for the First Semester while GST110 will be for the
Second Semester Course for all students starting from 2021/2022 academic
session;

b. That the course title would be Igbo language, literature and culture;

c. That the GST Igbo would be compulsory for all students.

The memo further directed the addressees to take necessary actions.
