The South Eastern cities of Aba, Enugu, Onitsha and Owerri complied with the sit-at-hone order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The group is pressing for the release of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is being detained by the Department of State Security, DSS.
At Nnewi, the situation is different as shootings continued into the afternoon.
An unidentified man driving a Toyota Camry was shot dead at the Izuchukwu Junction area of Nnewi roundabout while his phones were taken from him.
Another unconfirmed report said a commercial motorcycle operator was also killed in the area.
Most shops and offices were under lock and key in Owerri, Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba.
The state governments had asked residents to go about their normal business but that was far from the case.
IPOB on the other hand warned people not to come out in order not to be killed by Nigerian security agencies.
Meanwhile, parents have lamented the missing of NECO Mathematics examination by their children following the sit-at-home.
The parents who spoke to StandardObsevers lamented that their children missed the exams because of the sit-at-home order, adding that they were not sure if the federal government will allow them to rewrite the exams on a new fixed day.
